About Aualé

Hi, I'm Joan Sala, a software engineer and former Chess referee. I created Aualé as a way to share my love for abstract strategy games. I've been fascinated by Oware for years, and I wanted to build a digital version that felt alive, challenging, and enjoyable.

Aualé started as a desktop project and gradually evolved into the Android game it is today. Along the way, I focused on keeping the AI engaging and human-like, refining the gameplay so that each match feels meaningful. It's been a long journey of learning and experimenting, and I hope that care and attention comes through when you play.

When I created Aualé, my biggest goal was to make it feel alive and fun from the very first move. I wanted every match to feel unique and full of surprises. To bring that to life, I built twelve AI opponents, each with its own personality and way of thinking. Some are cautious and thoughtful, while others are bold and unpredictable.

My aim has always been for these opponents to behave in ways that make sense within the game, so they feel like real partners to play with rather than machines that just play perfectly or randomly. I wanted each match to be its own little adventure.

All of this runs on Aalina, an engine I've been developing and refining for years. It's widely regarded as one of the strongest Oware engines available, and because I believe in building a better society, where knowledge is shared and helping others is valued, it's open-source for anyone to explore on GitHub.

Beyond the AI, I wanted Aualé to be a place to experiment and have fun. That's why I included a built-in coach, hints, and undo tools. Playing Aualé shouldn't be just about winning: it should be about discovering new strategies, learning how each AI thinks, and enjoying the little surprises each match brings.

I hope the game feels like it has its own character, where every match offers new challenges and playful twists. All while having a lot of fun along the way!
